Edge Lettering Applied to Normal US Mint Smooth-Edge Coins.

Specific records were not kept, so the data in this section is from memory only.

Circa 2007, as tests for the application of edge lettering,
a few normal US Mint Sacagawea dollars and some Jefferson Nickels were marked as follows:

KILROY WAS HERE :
About 40 produced on Sacagawea Dollars and about 20 on 1942 Jefferson nickels.

DARWIN RULES :
Estimated 20 produced on Sacagawea Dollars and a few on Jefferson Nickels.

EAT SPURIOUS TUNA :
Estimated 12 produced on Sacagawea Dollars.

2007 P  .  EAT SPURIOUS TUNA  .   IN GOLD WE LUST :
Estimated 4 produced on 2007-P Sacagawea Dollars.

2007 D  .  EAT SPURIOUS TUNA  .   IN GOLD WE LUST :
Estimated 4 produced on 2007-D Sacagawea Dollars.

“DARWIN RULES” is a satirical statement in response to the reactions of some people regarding the accidental omission of “IN GOD WE TRUST” on a few US Mint George Washington Dollars.

“EAT SPURIOUS TUNA” is simply a crude pun that sounds a little bit like “E PLURIBUS UNUM”.
