“2022” ([P], “S”, “D”) Fantasy Over-Struck Peace Dollars – Production Blog

All are over-struck on genuine (circa 1922-1935) US Mint Peace Silver Dollars.

Peace Dollars were originally minted from 1921 to 1935. 100 years after the first Peace Dollars, the US Mint issued 2021-dated Morgan and Peace dollars. In mid-2022 the US Mint announced that they were scrapping plans for 2022 Morgan and Peace dollars due to the unavailability of silver blanks. But the announcement indicated that the US Mint intended to resume production of Morgan and Peace dollars with 2023 dates, after skipping 2022.

Now available are these modern over-strike "2022" Peace. They are over-struck on genuine Peace silver dollars of 1922-1935, they have the correct weight (no metal is added or removed), correct metallic content, and correct diameter. All the over-strikes are privately and painstakingly performed using a surplus Denver Mint coin press. Three privy-mark versions are available: Philadelphia [P]; San Francisco “S”; and Denver “D”. In addition, the [P] version has the original “Broken Sword” reverse that was part of the original design but was removed just prior to the production of the first 1921 Peace Dollars.

NOTE: These are NOT endorsed by the US Treasury. Defacing of US coins is legal so long as the defacement isn't for fraudulent purposes.
