“2016-W” Walking-Liberty/Mercanti Silver Halfs
– Production Blog
All are over-struck on genuine US Mint silver Walking Liberty Half Dollars of 1916-1947.
Walking Liberty half dollars were originally minted for circulation from 1916 to 1947. None were minted after 1947 and none ever had a “W” mint mark. The Walking Liberty design was later used on the 1986 Silver Eagle dollars. The 1986-2021 Silver Eagle dollars featured a reverse design by John Mercanti. The “2016-W” Walking-Liberty/Mercanti over-strikes also have the Mercanti reverse design in place of the Weinman Eagle reverse design used on the Walking Liberty Half Dollars of 1916-1947.
NOTE: These are NOT endorsed by the US Treasury. Defacing of US coins is legal so long as the defacement isn't for fraudulent purposes.
