 “1934” Saint-Gaudens Gold $20 Double Eagle – Production Blog

All are broad-struck on genuine US Mint Saint-Gaudens gold Double Eagles (circa 1908-1928), unless otherwise noted.
All were broad-struck such that the original raised edge lettering shows.

The controversial 1933 Saint-Gaudens gold Double Eagles were the last produced by the US Mint. Private ownership of them was subsequently outlawed, except for one example which was sold by the US Government to an anonymous buyer for approximately 7 million dollars. This "1934" edition represents a “what if” scenario where Franklin D Roosevelt did not halt the minting of all gold coins in 1933.

NOTE: These are NOT endorsed by the US Treasury. Defacing of US coins is legal so long as the defacement isn't for fraudulent purposes.

First produced May 2018.
Broad-struck on genuine US Mint Saint-Gaudens gold $20 Double Eagles
(circa 1908-1928).

For most, the over-striking increased the diameter from the original 34mm to about 35mm.
Since the over-striking is done in a collar, the original raised edge lettering shows,
but is somewhat flattened.
